Degree Award in Memory of Salvatore Satta – Year 2024
For the second consecutive year, a young graduate in Statistical and Actuarial Sciences from the University of Sannio has been awarded the “Salvatore Satta” Prize, an award aimed at promoting the study and research of younger generations on the themes of social security and welfare.
In the 2023 edition, the prize was awarded to Carmen Tornusciolo, author of the thesis "Financial and Demographic Risk in the Management of a Pension Fund."
The 2024 edition saw Jamila Fidani as the winner, with a thesis titled "Long-Term Care: Challenges and Solutions for the Future," supervised by Prof. Cinzia Ferrara and co-supervised by Prof. Paola Mancini.
The work was carried out with the valuable collaboration of Dr. Tiziana Tafaro, President of the National Association of Actuaries. The topic is highly relevant and fits into a demographic context in which Italy is among the countries with the highest percentage of elderly people.
Jamila Fidani’s work fits into a rapidly changing demographic landscape: today, Italy is among the countries with the highest percentage of elderly population worldwide. According to projections, in the coming years the number of people who, due to chronic illnesses, injuries, or simply old age, will no longer be able to live independently is expected to increase significantly. This raises urgent questions about the future of long-term care, both in terms of the sustainability of the system and the equity of access to services.
The award ceremony was held on July 12, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the ACLI Patronage, during a study day dedicated to “Intergenerational Solidarity and Social Security for the Future: Equity and Sustainability.”
The event was attended not only by staff from the ACLI Patronage and the Scientific Committee of the Satta Prize, but also by prominent speakers such as Stefano Giubboni and Giuseppe Ludovico, professors of Labor Law at the University of Perugia.
