Unisannio hosts 30 MIT students
Thirty students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) arrived at the University of Sannio. Here they are spending a month to carry out an internship thanks to the letter of intent signed by Unisannio with MIT MISTI Italy, one of the MIT’s pioneering international education programs.
Followed by supervisor professors, they will carry out specific projects in the fields of Engineering, Economics and Biology.
In Benevento the American students were welcome at Palazzo San Domenico by the rector Filippo de Rossi, the coordinator of the MIT Student Exchange Program for the University of Sannio, Silvia Liberata Ullo, and the co-director of the MIT Italy Program, Serenella Sferza.
It is the second year that MIT students choose Unisannio. In 2018, five MIT students were involved in project activities with various research groups of the University of Sannio. This year, thanks to their positive experiences, the requests for an internship in Benevento have increased. There were 40 candidates. The selected students are now collaborating with thirty professors and researchers of the University of Sannio.
Moreover, "Understanding Our Planet" is the title of the environmental project which will allow MIT students to interact with Unisannio students and high school students.
In addition to the MIT Alumni Association and MIT MISTI Italy, this year the project also received the patronage of the MIT Alumni Club of Italy and the UNESCO Club of Benevento.
They stay at the university residences and they are also following an Italian language course thanks to the contribution of the Dante Alighieri Society.
The hospitality is also supported by the ESN Maleventum. It is thanks to this students’ union that the foreign guests are assimilating perfectly in the new city.
