Descrizione

Active since 2001, from the academic year 2014/2015 the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering has been offered in an Interateneo mode with the University of Molise, governed by a conventional act that allows the release of the joint degree. This organization makes it possible to take advantage of the synergy resulting from the presence of facilities (classrooms, laboratories, internships) existing in the two universities, as well as the possibility of guaranteeing the student a broader educational offer. Since its activation, the degree program has always pursued educational objectives consistent with the professional profile, identified on the basis of the needs of the productive world. This has also been possible through consultation with the social stakeholders most directly concerned (professional firms, construction companies, companies). In fact, the Course is aimed at training a figure of civil engineer with transversal skills in the various characterizing sectors: geotechnics, structures, hydraulic constructions, road networks and transport, building construction, urban planning, equipment, and architectural design. Therefore, the civil engineering graduate finds his or her place of employment in engineering design companies and in construction and maintenance companies for structures, buildings, plants and infrastructures, in the direction and management of construction sites, in technical-commercial structures, in service companies and agencies, and in public administrations for the planning, management and control of urban and territorial projects and services. In terms of educational offerings, there are two branches, general and building, which are organized as follows: in the first year, common to both branches, the disciplines of mathematics, physics, computer science, materials science and technology, and drawing are addressed; in the second year, the teachings of hydraulics, geotechnics, and construction science are introduced, and also transportation, urban planning, and road construction for the general branch, history of architecture, technical architecture, and architectural design for the building branch. Technical physics and climatology of the built environment add green building skills; the third year channels the acquired skills toward application to basic problems and simple systems, with the design of reinforced concrete and steel structures, foundations, and retaining structures; finally, the general address is completed with hydraulic construction, and the building branch with land design and urban planning.

Teaching is organized into 20 teaching courses. The choice of SSDs and CFUs assigned to the different educational activities and the final examination is aimed at the acquisition of the educational objectives described above. The characterizing areas and training credits are mostly covered by internal teaching staff, so as to ensure teaching continuity in the lectures. There are also, in addition to departmental facilities common to other degree programs, specific laboratories in which teaching and advanced research activities are carried out. An internship is included in the educational offer, which takes place, also thanks to the stipulation of specific conventions or protocols of understanding (e.g., with ANCE), generally at external companies and professional firms.

At the end of the course of study, the graduate can complete his or her education by joining one of the master's degree programs activated at the two universities.

Profilo e sbocchi professionali

The professional profile that is intended to be formed is that of an engineer with a good preparation in the various fields of Civil Engineering, capable of inserting himself or herself in operating realities that are very differentiated in size and type, characterized by rapid evolution both from the point of view of technology and work organization.

The graduate, who can acquire the title of junior engineer after passing the state exam, can work as a freelancer or as an employee in public and private entities, using his or her skills in the different fields of Civil Engineering. In particular, he can work alone or in a team as a designer and/or construction manager of simple Civil Engineering works, and as a director of civil and construction sites. He/she can work in public and private entities as a technician with management, management and control functions of civil and building works and infrastructures.

The professional skills acquired in the degree course concern the design and maintenance of simple works in the field of construction, building, plant and infrastructure, and are based on knowledge of the different aspects involved: geotechnical, hydraulic, structural, architectural design, road and transport networks, urban planning and plant engineering. The skills acquired in the degree course include knowledge of a language of the European Union, in addition to Italian, and adequate computer skills that enable the graduate to use the tools currently available and to follow the evolution of technologies in the information sector.

Occupational and professional opportunities are represented by employment in design companies, construction and maintenance companies of civil works, buildings, plants and infrastructures, management and management of construction sites, technical-commercial structures, service companies and agencies, public administrations for urban and infrastructure planning, management and control of urban and territorial works and services.

Requisiti di ammissione

The BSc in Civil Engineering is a non-programmed access course. To be admitted to the Degree Course, it is necessary to possess a five-year high school diploma or other qualification obtained abroad, recognized as suitable under current laws.
In order to attend, the student must also possess adequate initial preparation. Verification of initial preparation is implemented through an assessment test, delivered by CISIA and organized by the Department of Engineering.
Following the score obtained in the test, the student may have specific additional educational obligations (OFAs) assigned.

The student may register before having completed the OFAs, but must complete them before taking the exams and in any case within the first year of the course. A student who has not successfully passed the orientation test will be able to complete the OFAs through attending a mathematics pre-course, specially organized by the Department, and passing the corresponding examination. The mathematics pre-course consists of 50 hours of teaching activities and takes place before the start of classes in the first semester. Attending the pre-course is also recommended for students without OFAs, who also do not have to participate in the final exam. The exams aimed at passing OFAs can be taken only by students regularly registered in the Courses of Study of the Department of Engineering of the University of Sannio.

Alternatively, the educational debt may be cleared by successfully passing the TOLC-I after the date of matriculation. Students with OFAs cannot take any proficiency exams before having cleared the additional educational debt. Students who have not cleared the educational debt (OFA) by the end of the academic year will have to register for the first year as repeating students.

Modalità prova finale

The final examination consists of the discussion of a dissertation of a compilative, applied, design or experimental nature. The dissertation and its discussion are to be prepared under the guidance of one or more lecturers, at least one of whom pertains to the Department or holds an adjunct or tenure-track teaching position in the degree course.
The final evaluation of the student's career will take into account the evaluations on previous educational activities and the final examination as well as any other relevant elements. The final examination will be discussed in front of a committee of faculty members, possibly supplemented by other professionals who have correlated the work of one of the graduating students.
