International Colloquium on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems
International Colloquium on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems
The 28th edition of the International Colloquium on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems (ICDERS) will be held from Sunday 19 to Friday 24 June in Naples, which has been held every two years since 1967.
Representing UNISANNIO, prof. Gaetano Continillo, as Past President and member of the Honorary Committee.
For the first time in over 50 years, the 28th edition will be held in Italy. The event is organized by the National Research Council - Institute for Science and Technology for Sustainable Energy and Mobility (CNR - STEMS), in collaboration with the University of Naples Federico II and the University of Sannio.
The event will be held at the University of Naples Federico II, seat of Fuorigrotta.
The subject of Explosion Dynamics mainly concerns the interrelation between the process of energy release in compressible media and their field of motion, as typically occurs in detonations. Dynamics of Reactive Systems deals with the non-stationary coupling between the flow field and exothermic reactions, such as those that typically occur during combustion.
The physics and chemistry involved in the phenomena in question are among the most complex that exist and require experimental skills and high-level mathematical models. Applications include safety issues for plants and workers and also cover the scientific and technological basis of weapon and defense systems. This last aspect makes the process of maintaining a dialogue and scientific collaboration among scholars of the world particularly delicate, especially in times of high international tension such as the one we are unfortunately going through. Despite the waves of international tension that have followed one another since then, ICDERS has continued to encourage meetings between scholars of the two "blocs", choosing the headquarters alternately in Europe, North America and more recently also in Asia. In this process the "non-aligned" nations have played an important role, being able to be visited by scholars from both NATO countries and the Warsaw Pact.
