IEEE GRSS IADF School on Computer Vision for Earth Observation

The University of Sannio will host from 13 to 15 September 2023 at the Sant'Agostino Complex the IEEE GRSS IADF School on Computer Vision for Earth Observation, an event of excellence for advanced training in the field of computer vision applied to Earth Observation.

It is also the first time that the prestigious school organized by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) and the IADF technical committee takes place in Italy, with the University of Sannio chosen as the venue for this edition.

The event will start on September 12 with a welcome event, organized together with the ESN Maleventum association, when 30 highly qualified students selected from about 200 who have applied from all over the world will arrive at Sant'Agostino to participate in this extraordinary learning and networking opportunity. In addition to the students, there will also be five internationally renowned speakers, experts in the field of computer vision and Earth Observation.

During the School, students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops, interactive sessions, as well as work on practical projects to test the acquired skills. Finally, on the last day in the afternoon there will be a Panel for final discussions and a Poster session. The two best posters will receive two awards funded by ESA (European Space Agency). 

Professor Silvia Ullo from the University of Sannio is part of the organizing committee composed by experts in the field, the only Italian from the academic world.

In addition to the ESA, and the University of Sannio, the school is sponsored by the Dutch company cosine with an operational headquarters in Benevento; the company Intelligentia of Benevento; the company Strega Alberti of Benevento. Some of the sponsorships have been translated into Travel Grants to offer financial support to students from more distant and disadvantaged countries, because promoting research also means allowing good students to seize opportunities.
