30 students from MIT: welcome event at Unisannio

Thirty students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) arriving at the University of Sannio. They will spend a month of study in Italy to carry out an internship at the three Unisannio departments thanks to the letter of intent signed by Sannio University with MIT MISTI Italy, the MIT body responsible for promoting international technical and scientific collaborative initiatives, directed by Dr. Serenella Sferza. Followed by supervising teachers, they will carry out specific projects on cutting-edge issues compared to the state of the art at an international level in the field of engineering, economics, jurisprudence and biology. Thursday 9 January at 4 pm, in the former Library Hall of Palazzo San Domenico, they will be welcomed during a welcome event attended by the rector Gerardo Canfora, the coordinator for the University of Sannio of the project "Connecting Unisannio and MIT", Silvia Liberata Ullo , and in connection via Skype, Dr. Sferza. It is the third year that American students have been welcomed by Unisannio. In 2018, five MIT students were involved in project activities with various research groups from the Samnite university. Subsequently, requests for an internship in Benevento increased thanks to the positive feedback from the participating students. Last January 2019, another 30 students were hosted at the Sannita University, so this year, consolidating the relationship with MIT and the interest of overseas students in the study and research activities carried out at Unisannio. MIT students will collaborate on specific projects with about thirty teachers from the University of Sannio, as well as with students, postdoctoral students and doctoral students. On the occasion of the welcome event the schools of Benevento will be present who have agreed to include some of their students in the study groups at Unisannio to support them with the MIT students and the Global TeachingLabs (GTLs) initiative will be explained in which they are for the first time some Sannio schools have been included. In addition to the MIT AlumniAssociation and MIT MISTI Italy, the project benefits from the patronage of the MIT Alumni Club of Italy, the UNESCO Club of Benevento and Società Dante Alighieri Comitato di Benevento. The reception of American students will be supported by the indispensable contribution of the ESN Maleventum association which will help foreign students to integrate into the new university and city reality, together with the many student associations of Unisannio.
