MIT students in UniSannio
Also this year, the University of Sannio hosted 11 students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, who, at a distance, compared to previous years, were again involved in mini-research projects. Since the first edition, over 80 MIT students have participated in this program. The welcome event was held online in January with the participation of Serenella Sferza, director of MISTI, the MIT body responsible for promoting international collaboration initiatives of a technical and scientific nature. "A special thanks to the University of Sannio - said Dr. Sferza - for having respected this commitment in complex conditions and above all for the great benefit in favor of MIT students who are suffering like all the restrictions due to the pandemic".
"Each time - reaffirmed Professor Silvia Liberata Ullo, coordinator of the MIT Student Exchange Program for the University of Sannio - we manage to put in place an intense scientific and cultural exchange between different experiences on cutting-edge study topics". This year, a dozen of UniSannio tutors together with their research groups, and in some cases companies and external institutes, involved American students in projects of the highest scientific value, which involved the study of metasurfaces for biotechnology, nanoparticles for medical applications, climate change, quantum neural networks for the processing and classification of satellite images, the use of Web-based algorithms for the optimization of travel experiences, infrastructure monitoring through interferometric techniques and SAR images, the analysis of light pollution as an indicator of the growth of a nation.
The American guests were greeted by the rector Gerardo Canfora. "It is the fourth year - said professor Canfora - that we support this welcome program with the aim of promoting scientific collaborations, between Italian supervisors and their overseas colleagues, academic and research advisor of American students, involved in each project. The next goal - continued Canfora - will be to activate an exchange of students from the University of Sannio to MIT to carry out similar internships at the prestigious US university ".
