I was born in Nocera Inferiore (SA) in 1963 and graduated in Electronic Engineering at the University of Naples “Federico II” in 1989. From 1990 to 1992 I worked as a research assistant for CNR, the Italian National Research Council, and from 1992 to 1993 I was a visiting researcher at the University of Durham, UK. I joined the University of Salerno as an assistant professor in 1993. In 1998 I was became an associate professor at the University of Sannio, and in 2001 I was promoted to full professor.
From July 2016 I am a member of the Executive Board of the University os Sannio.
From November 2009 I am the Rector delegate for Strategic Projects and Research at the University of Sannio.
From May 2012 I am a member of the Executive Board of ASI (Area Sviluppo Industriale) an industrial consortium aimed at promoting innovation among small and medium enterprises - http://www.asibn.it.
From 2012 to 2015 I was a member of the Executive Board of ICT-SUD a research consortium comprising Universities and ICT companies from southern Italy - http://www.cc-ict-sud.it.
From 2009 to 2015 I was a member of the Executive Board of CINI (Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale per l’Informatica) a consortium of 34 Italian University with Computer Science courses - http://www.consorzio-cini.it.
From 2001 to 2007 I served as director of RCOST, the centre of excellence for research and education on software technology established by University of Sannio with the financial support of the Italian Ministry for University and Research and leading ICT companies - http://www.rcost.unisannio.it.
From May 2014 I an a member of the Executive Board of CeR-ICT, the consortium for ICT innovation and technology transfer established by leading Universities and research institutions operating in Campania and the Regional Council of Campania. From December 2011 to July 2013 I was a member of the expert panel nominated by ANVUR (National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes) for the evaluation of Italian research (VQR-2004-2010) - http://www.anvur.org.
I have been on the program, steering, or organising committees of many international conferences. I was general chair of the Working Conference on Reverse Engineering (WCRE’06) and the IEEE European Conference on Software Maintenance and Reengineering (CSMR’03). I was a program co-chair of the 37th International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2015), the ICSE Workshop on Emerging Trends in Software Metrics (WETSoM’10 and WETSoM’12), the Workshop on Software Security Process (SSP’09; collocated with the IEEE International Conference on Information Privacy, Security, Risk and Trust), the IEEE International Workshop on Principles of Software Evolution (IWPSE’05), the IEEE European Conference on Software Maintenance and Reengineering (CSMR’04), the Workshop on Cooperative Supports for Distributed Software Engineering Processes (collocated with COMPSAC’02), the IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance (ICSM’01 and ICSM’07) and the International Workshop on Program Comprehension (IWPC’97).
From January 2011 I am an editor in chief of the Journal of Software - Evolution and Process. From 2000 to 2004 I was an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering and currently I am a member of the editorial board of Advances in Software Engineering, and The Open Software Engineering Journal - http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1002/(ISSN)2047-7481.
I leaded several national and international research projects. I served as a reviewer and an evaluator for the European Commission and I was a consultant for national and local public bodies and ICT companies.

Currently, my research focus is on easing software evolution and engineering secure software.
