The topics covered in the scientific activity are in the field of energy systems. The research works have beeb carried out by means of experimental and numerical analysis.
More precisley, the research activity concerned the analysis and the thermo-economic optimization of energy conversion systems exploting both renewable and fossil sources. With reference to the former, solar technologies (thermal and photovoltaic), fueled by biomass and geothermal often coupled with conventional systems were analysed. With particular reference to the geothermal source, attention was also paid to the Ground Source Heat Pumps, to the ORC cycles, as well as to the analysis of innovative heat exchange components in plastic material.
The energy, economic and environmental performance of highly efficient fossil fuels-based energy conversion systems were evaluated. Particular attention was paid to micro-cogeneration (electric power lower than 50 kWEl), based on internal combustion engines fuelled by natural gas. The aforementioned technologies were then coupled to a heat pump (absorption and electrically operated) to meet thermo-electric and cooling requirements (micropolygeneration).
The aforementioned systems able to satisfy multiple energy requests were analyzed with different aggregations of users, from single ones (residential, tertiary, condominiums) to district areas also in a logic of energy communities.
The power system was also analyzed from an energy and environmental point of view to characterize it with a high temporal and spatial resolution.
